Overview

IQ is a data intelligence platform that brings together indicators, sources and evidence so complex programmes can be understood and compared. It is built for a public institution, where provenance and comparability are non-negotiable.

I worked as Product Designer on the product structure, navigation model, data presentation patterns and interface design.

The Challenge

Policy-relevant information is spread across different sources, formats and levels of detail. Decision-makers need consolidated readings, while technical teams need the underlying records.

The challenge was to design a single product that serves both without turning into an undifferentiated dashboard.

Context

The platform is developed in an institutional context where outputs support public decisions, which makes provenance, comparability and clarity core product requirements.

Users & Stakeholders

Several profiles use the platform with different questions and different levels of technical fluency.

  • Policy analysts and technical teams working with indicators
  • Programme managers monitoring policy execution
  • Institutional decision-makers reading consolidated overviews
  • Researchers looking for comparable evidence

Product Strategy

The strategy was to organise the product around questions rather than data sources: start from an institutional reading, then allow progressive descent into indicators and individual records.

Information Architecture

Policies, indicators, territories and time periods form the shared backbone of the product, so every view can be cross-referenced and every aggregate stays one step away from its records.

User Flows

Users enter from an overview, a filter or a specific indicator, and can always move between consolidated views and detailed evidence without losing context.

Key Design Decisions

  • Consolidated views always expose the data behind them
  • Comparison designed as a first-class action, not an export
  • Progressive disclosure between institutional and technical readings
  • Explicit treatment of missing and partial data

AI / Human-AI Interaction

Where automated processing supports interpretation, the interface presents it as an aid: what the system used, what it inferred and how the user can adjust or discard it.

What collaborators say

One of the most proactive and organized professional I know. I had the opportunity to be part of two projects with Ayrton and both times he immediately organized the tasks and directed the team. He played a fundamental role as a good leader and, whenever necessary, made himself available to help teams with tasks that were not necessarily his direct responsibility. He is also a very studious and communicative guy, and at every opportunity he came with new knowledge to add to the teams. It was a pleasure working with you, Ayrton.

Design System

Shared patterns for indicator cards, charts, filters, tables and detail views keep a data-dense product visually calm and consistent across modules.

Accessibility

Charts are paired with tabular alternatives, navigation works from the keyboard, contrast and focus states are explicit, and colour is never the only carrier of meaning.

Final Product

The platform has been designed and developed and is currently in a testing / homologation environment.

Learnings

Institutional data products succeed when they make the distance between a summary and its evidence short and visible.
